Mark Erich Holzshu
How Has Your Nominee Been a Trailblazer Implementing Technology into Instruction?

Mr. Holzshu often incorporates technology into his daily instruction. His lessons are driven from various software pieces, which frees him up to conference with students and facilitate small group discussions. He uses e-centers, online games and webquests. He sends home online practice games and flashcards that both the students and parents enjoy. The end result is that students are more engaged and excited about learning and their achievement scores are increased. In addition, at the end of the year, every student receives a CD with interactive games, notes, movies and activities that have spanned the year. In addition, Mr. Holzshu helps his colleagues with technology. He is always willing to help them by explaining a program, sharing a lesson, or simply debugging one of the million things that can go wrong with a computer. His ability to use technology to forge parent partnerships have helped include the entire family in the educational process. He also is an instructional trainer, whose role includes teaching teachers and staff on how to use and implement technology into their classroom. Parents now have the same resources that he does in order to assist their child in learning the content, skills and processes of US History.

Mr. Holzshu just finished applying to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. If he passes, he will be the only Board Certified Social Studies teacher in the Division.

Others who are familiar with Mr. Holzshu's work include:

Paul Sheets, Spcial Studies Teacher

Dr. Kendra Crump, Principal

Vicki Corlett, Assistant Principal
