Saturday May 30th some 200 educators descended on CRSTE's Day of Discovery event: Literacy 2.0. The day kicked off with a kynote by Matt Monjan of Discovery Education, setting the tone for a day of learning and discovery!
Sessions during the day included "Digital Storytelling and Discovery Education streaming" presented by Heather Hurley, "Get Interactive with Glogs, Voicethread & the Discovery Education Builders" presented by Michael Hakkarinen, "Powering up Your Professional Learning Network" presented by Jen Dorman and "Professional Development and Second Life" presented by Fred Delventhal. One attendee said, "I had tried voicethread before, but wasn't sure how to use it with students and learning...now I have a better idea and will try to use in some upcoming workshops." On the PLN presentation, an attendee shared, "What a great presentation to help us understand the big picture of all these sights and what to where and why with the goal of collaborating with colleagues to connect and learn from each other."
Mid-afternoon everyone came back together for a panel discussion on Literacy 2.0: What is the pedagogy that turns Web 2.0 into Literacy 2.0?Where do revolutionary instructional tools like Discovery Education streaming, Google Earth, digital story telling, Glogster and the other applications explored during our day together fit into your instructional practice? Four classroom practitioners from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia shared their vision for the new interactive web technologies in their instruction.
The day concluded with a special session for Staff Developers, ITRTs, Technology Coaches, and Curriculum Staffled by Carol Wetzel on "Building Internal Capacity with Professional Development and Discovery Education."
